Mayotte health organizations launch breastfeeding awareness initiatives

In observance of breastfeeding awareness initiatives, health organizations in Mayotte are launching campaigns to inform and support families.

The maternity ward at Centre hospitalier Louis Constant Fleming is hosting a breastfeeding tea session. This event provides a space for mothers to exchange experiences, receive professional health advice, and discuss breastfeeding questions in a supportive environment. The initiative aligns with the theme ‘Breastfeeding, a springboard for life’ to highlight the nutritional and developmental benefits of breast milk.

Additionally, the Réseau Périnatal de Mayotte (REPEMA) is conducting a national breastfeeding week campaign from October 12 to 17. The organization is utilizing social media platforms, including Facebook and Instagram, to share informative videos and illustrations aimed at debunking misconceptions. REPEMA’s broader mission includes year-round prevention and awareness regarding contraception, sexual health, and perinatal family support, often in collaboration with the Agence régionale de Santé Mayotte.
