Breastfeeding awareness initiatives in Mayotte and Morocco

Overview

Health organizations and government bodies in Mayotte and Morocco have launched campaigns to promote breastfeeding and maternal health.

In Mayotte, the Centre hospitalier Louis Constant Fleming hosted a breastfeeding tea session to provide professional advice and peer support. Simultaneously, the Réseau Périnatal de Mayotte (REPEMA) conducted a national breastfeeding week campaign from October 12 to 17, using social media to share informative content and debunk misconceptions.

In Morocco, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, alongside the National Initiative for Human Development, launched the 16th edition of its national campaign. Running from October 20 to November 20, the initiative operates under the slogan ‘Exclusive breastfeeding in the first six months is enough.’ The program focuses on social and behavioral change to improve health during a child’s first 1,000 days, emphasizing the benefits of breastfeeding and supporting the ‘Baby-Friendly Hospitals’ initiative.
