Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders to invest ₹15,000 crore in Andhra Pradesh shipyard

Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd (MDL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with National Shipbuilding and Heavy Industries Park-AP (NSHIP-AP) to develop a greenfield shipyard at Dugarajapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. MDL will invest approximately ₹15,000 crore into the shipyard, which is planned to have an annual design capacity of 1.2 million Gross Tonnage (GT).

The project is part of a larger proposed shipbuilding-cum-port cluster at Dugarajapatnam. While MDL’s specific investment is ₹15,000 crore, the total estimated cost for the integrated shipbuilding cluster is approximately ₹29,253 crore, with the proposed port estimated at ₹9,513 crore. The initiative aims to establish Andhra Pradesh as a global maritime hub and supports India’s National Shipbuilding Mission and Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047.

The facility is expected to manufacture a variety of commercial vessels, including tankers, bulk carriers, container ships, and LNG carriers. The project is projected to generate nearly 45,000 direct and indirect jobs, fostering an ecosystem across marine engineering, manufacturing, and logistics.
