Mazda announces updates for 6e electric vehicle

Mazda has announced updates for its Mazda 6e electric vehicle line for the 2027 model year. The updates include a new powertrain featuring a 78-kWh battery, providing a WLTP range of 560 kilometers and support for up to 200 kW charging. The manufacturer claims that charging can provide 392 kilometers of range in 24 minutes.

Technical improvements focus on the 'Jinba Ittai' driving philosophy, with enhanced acceleration, stronger regenerative braking, and refined suspension for increased stability. The vehicle also receives upgrades to its i-Activesense safety and assistance systems, featuring more accurate sensors and cameras. Additionally, the infotainment system has been updated for faster performance and clearer menus, alongside a more legible head-up display.

Industry analysis suggests Mazda is positioning the 6e as a more distinctive alternative to the increasing volume of generic electric crossovers originating from Chinese manufacturers, such as the Changan Deepal S07. While the Deepal S07 serves as a technical foundation, Mazda's design teams in Japan and Germany have focused on differentiating the vehicle through unique styling and driving dynamics.
