Mazda refreshes SUV lineup and debuts electric models

Overview

Mazda is implementing a comprehensive update strategy for its SUV lineup following sales that fell short of expectations. The company reported selling 150,637 units of its Large Architecture-based models (CX-60, CX-70, CX-80, and CX-90) in fiscal year 2025, missing a 200,000-unit target. CEO Masahiro Moro announced that these updates will be “unprecedented in scale,” involving significant changes to exterior design, interior technology, and powertrains to elevate these models to flagship status.

As part of its electrification transition, Mazda has detailed updates for its electric models. The 2027 Mazda6e electric sedan will feature a 190 kW motor, a 78 kWh LFP battery with up to 560 km WLTP range, revised suspension, upgraded Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), and new trim options such as the Homura Plus. The sedan is expected to arrive at European dealerships in November. Similarly, the CX-6e SUV utilizes a 190 kW rear electric motor and a 78 kWh LFP battery, providing a WLTP range of up to 484 km and supporting fast charging up to 195 kW, which allows a 10% to 80% charge in approximately 24 minutes. The CX-6e also includes a 26-inch touchscreen and advanced voice recognition.

Regarding its internal combustion lineup, Mazda is introducing a new generation of the CX-5 with increased space. In Vietnam, the locally assembled CX-5 is seeing significant price adjustments as it enters the final stage of its lifecycle. For September 2026, the vehicle is available in six versions, with listed prices ranging from 699 million to 869 million VND, resulting in estimated on-the-road prices between 771 million and 989 million VND. Additionally, the CX-30 lineup has been updated with new trim grades utilizing a 2.0L mild hybrid engine.
