Mazda announces major updates to SUV lineup to boost sales

Mazda is implementing a comprehensive update strategy for its SUV lineup following sales that fell short of expectations. The company reported selling 150,637 units of its Large Architecture-based models (CX-60, CX-70, CX-80, and CX-90) in fiscal year 2025, missing the 200,000-unit target.

CEO Masahiro Moro announced that these updates will be unprecedented in scale, involving significant changes to exterior design, interior technology, and powertrains. The goal is to elevate these models to true flagship status. Key technical developments include the potential introduction of Skyactiv-Z engine technology and enhanced hybrid systems.

Additionally, Mazda is planning the next generation of its compact CX-3, expected to debut in 2027. This model is anticipated to feature a new platform, updated design language, and electrified powertrains, including mild and full hybrid options. The company also continues to expand its electric offerings, such as the EZ-60, which features advanced driver assistance systems and high-resolution digital cockpits.
