Mazda CX-5 new generation drives record orders in Japan and leads Vietnam SUV market
Mazda launched the third‑generation CX‑5 in Japan on 21 May 2026, the first full model change in nine years. Within a month the domestic order tally exceeded 10 000 vehicles, five times the company’s monthly target of 2 000, with the top‑spec L trim accounting for 65 % of orders, G for 32 % and S only 3 %. Buyers praised the enlarged rear seat space, a 15.6‑inch infotainment screen and the new 2.5‑L mild‑hybrid e‑SkyActiv power‑train, priced between ¥3.3 million and ¥4.306 million (≈US$540‑706 k).
In Vietnam, the CX‑5 continued to dominate the C‑segment SUV market. In the first three quarters of 2025 it sold 11 306 units – about 30 % of the segment – with an average of 1 250 units per month, the highest pace among competitors. The model’s broad appeal spans first‑time buyers to senior drivers, and the premium L version accounts for two‑thirds of local orders. Mazda expects the new generation to arrive in Vietnam by late 2026.
