Mazda delays next-generation CX-30 until fiscal year 2030

Mazda has confirmed that the next generation of its CX-30 compact SUV will be delayed until fiscal year 2030, meaning the new model is not expected to arrive before 2031. This decision extends the lifecycle of the current platform, which has been in use since 2019, potentially for up to 12 years.

The delay is linked to Mazda’s strategic focus on cost control and resource reallocation. The company aims to achieve 200 billion yen in structural cost reductions between fiscal years 2025 and 2027. Additionally, Mazda is shifting research and development efforts toward internal combustion engine technology, hybrid system optimization, and electrification, with its proprietary electric platform currently slated for 2029.

Despite the lack of a full redesign, Mazda plans to maintain the current model’s competitiveness through mid-cycle updates. These include introducing new mild-hybrid systems and incorporating safety features from higher-end models like the CX-60 and CX-80.
