Mazda expands premium hybrid SUV lineup in Vietnam

Mazda announced a strategic push into the Vietnamese market with a new premium hybrid range. The automaker will launch the flagship CX‑90 SUV, built on its Large Product Group architecture with a longitudinal engine, four‑wheel drive and a six‑cylinder I6 engine, followed by the CX‑60 Hybrid. Both models will use a hybrid powertrain that combines a gasoline engine with an electric motor for smoother city driving and long‑distance flexibility. Mazda said the first CX‑90 and MX‑5 units will be delivered to Vietnamese customers in June, marking the debut of the brand’s Japanese‑Premium positioning in the country.

Separately, Mazda filed the SKYACTIV‑Z HEV trademark in Japan, indicating that a new hybrid system will debut on the CX‑5 model slated for 2027. The system features a newly developed 2.5‑liter inline‑four gasoline engine designed for higher thermal efficiency, Euro 7 emission compliance and potential carbon‑neutral fuels. The upcoming CX‑5 will replace the current mild‑hybrid version with this full hybrid architecture, mirroring similar series‑parallel designs used by other Japanese manufacturers. These developments reflect Mazda’s broader strategy to invest in hybrid technology alongside electric and conventional powertrains.
