Mazda MX-5 2027 adds Zinc Green Metallic paint, power boost, meets Japan noise rules

Mazda has unveiled the 2027 model year of its MX-5 roadster with a new Zinc Green Metallic paint finish and a modest power increase of four horsepower, raising the 1.5‑litre Skyactiv‑G engine output to 136 hp. The European production run is scheduled to begin in October, with market launch expected at the start of 2027. The update also retains the lightweight chassis, rear‑wheel drive layout and the 6‑speed manual transmission, while offering refreshed infotainment and suspension options.

In Japan, the MX‑5 must comply with newly tightened external‑noise regulations aligned with UN Rule 51‑03, which lower allowable sound levels to 68‑72 dB. To meet the standards Mazda has fitted a larger muffler, quieter tyres and revised intake components, which reduce trunk depth. The changes also give rise to a Japan‑only Pure Sport edition that features the new Zinc Green Metallic colour, a 1.5‑litre engine, grey cloth top, black 16‑inch alloy wheels and upgraded brakes and dampers.
