Mazda rolls out 2027 upgrades for CX-30 and MX-5, flags MX-5 could be final gasoline model

Mazda has refreshed its compact SUV CX‑30 for the 2027 model year, adding two new trim levels – HOMURA PLUS and MAKOTO – that bring Matrix LED headlights, a 360° camera, Bose twelve‑speaker audio, leather seats and enhanced driver‑assist features such as adaptive cruise control linked to road‑sign recognition. Existing trims receive minor interior tweaks and the i‑Activsense suite gains secondary‑collision prevention and driver‑attention monitoring.

The Japanese‑made roadster MX‑5 also receives a 2027 update aimed at meeting stricter Japanese noise regulations. A larger silencer, low‑noise tyres and an “Induction Sound Enhancer” keep the cabin‑engine note while reducing external sound. An 8.8‑inch central display now supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a new Pure Sport variant adds Bilstein suspension, Brembo brakes and lightweight wheels. Mazda insiders suggest the forthcoming “NE” generation – expected around 2028 – could be the last MX‑5 with a gasoline engine, equipped with a larger 2.5‑litre Skyactiv‑Z unit and possibly a mild‑hybrid system to meet future emission limits.
