Mazda to overhaul flagship SUV lineup to boost sales

Mazda CEO Masahiro Moro has announced a major overhaul of the company’s flagship SUV lineup, including the CX-60, CX-70, CX-80, and CX-90. This unprecedented update aims to address sales shortfalls, as the group reached only 150,637 global units in fiscal year 2025, missing the 200,000 target. The planned changes will involve extensive modifications to exterior design, interior, and powertrains.

To remain competitive, particularly in the US market, Mazda is developing its next-generation Skyactiv-Z engine technology. This development is expected to expand beyond four-cylinder engines to better compete in the growing hybrid market.

Separately, the company revealed that the CX-30 crossover will not see a new generation until 2031 as Mazda prioritizes cost-cutting measures. The manufacturer aims to reduce structural costs by 200 billion yen between 2025 and 2027 to combat economic instability and rising material costs.
