Mazda unveils LiDAR-equipped CX-6e electric SUV in China

Mazda has opened pre-orders in China for an updated version of its mid-sized CX-6e electric SUV, known locally as the EZ-60. Unveiled at the Chengdu Auto Show 2026, this new variant features roof-mounted LiDAR technology to enhance its advanced driver-assistance capabilities.

The vehicle utilizes a comprehensive perception system consisting of the LiDAR unit, three millimeter-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and 11 cameras. This setup supports Level 2 driving assistance across more than 200 scenarios. On highways, the system can manage lane changes to overtake slower vehicles and navigate highway exits and service areas with minimal driver intervention at speeds up to 130 km/h. In urban environments, the technology supports navigating intersections, roundabouts, and U-turns at speeds up to 80 km/h.

Produced through the Changan-Mazda joint venture, the CX-6e is built on Changan’s EPA1 platform. This model represents Mazda’s second New Energy Vehicle (NEV) in the Chinese market, following the EZ-6 sedan. While official pricing has not been released, some reports suggest expected starting prices around 160,000 yuan.
