Mazda unveils next‑generation CX‑3 compact crossover

Mazda has confirmed that a new generation of its sub‑compact crossover, the CX‑3, is under development. A masked prototype image released in the company’s latest financial report shows a larger, more massive body with a revised front end that follows the brand’s newest Kodo design language, featuring a broader grille and re‑styled headlights.

Production is slated to begin in 2027 at Mazda’s AutoAlliance plant in Thailand, with an initial rollout planned for ASEAN markets and Japan. The model is expected to incorporate hybrid or mild‑hybrid powertrains as part of Mazda’s broader electrification strategy. While the CX‑3 was withdrawn from most European markets, it continues to be sold in select regions such as Australia and Mexico, and the new version will aim to address previous criticisms of interior space and cargo capacity.

The launch will complement Mazda’s larger CX‑30, which has largely taken over the small‑crossover segment in many markets, but the company intends to keep the CX‑3 as a distinct, entry‑level offering.
