Mazda upgrades 2026 Mazda3 and CX-30 in Japan with 2.5L mild‑hybrid engine and enhanced safety tech

Mazda has released an update for the 2026 Mazda3 and CX-30 models in Japan, adding a new 2.5‑litre e‑Skyactiv G mild‑hybrid engine paired with a 24‑volt M‑Hybrid system. The power unit produces 179 PS and 238 Nm of torque, and the integrated starter‑generator provides electric torque assist and smoother i‑Stop operation.

Alongside the powertrain change, the cars receive a suite of upgraded driver‑assistance functions, including blind‑spot monitoring with door‑opening alerts, traffic‑sign recognition, adaptive headlights and refined automatic emergency braking. Mazda3 also gains a 1.5‑litre gasoline engine previously limited to corporate customers, now offered to regular buyers, while CX‑30 adds an optional 2.0‑litre naturally‑aspirated engine.

The exterior design remains largely unchanged as Mazda prolongs the current generation’s life cycle ahead of a full model redesign slated for around 2027.
