Mazowieckie Voivodeship to launch wild fox rabies vaccination campaign
A rabies vaccination campaign for wild foxes will take place across the Mazowieckie Voivodeship from September 10 to September 16. The operation utilizes the Rabadrop oral vaccine, which is distributed in the form of baits containing a live attenuated strain of the virus.
To distribute the vaccine, baits will be dropped from aircraft or placed manually in forest complexes, meadows, and fields. The campaign will avoid water bodies, roads, and built-up areas.
Authorities have issued safety guidelines for residents: individuals must not touch or pick up the baits, as human scent may prevent foxes from consuming them, and direct contact with the liquid vaccine can be hazardous. If contact occurs, the area should be washed with soap and water and a doctor should be consulted. Pet owners are advised to keep dogs on leashes and keep cats indoors for 14 days following the campaign to prevent domestic animals from consuming the baits.
