MBTA Orange Line suspended between Forest Hills and Back Bay

The MBTA has announced a five-day suspension of Orange Line service between Forest Hills and Back Bay, running from September 10 through September 14. The shutdown is intended to facilitate several infrastructure projects, including the Ruggles Station Improvements Project and accessibility upgrades at Jackson Square Station.

Work scheduled during this period includes concrete repairs at platforms, stair wall maintenance, and signal modernization between Forest Hills and Roxbury Crossing. Crews will also address repairs to the Ruggles Street Bridge and the staircase at the north end of Green Street.

To assist commuters, the MBTA is providing free and accessible shuttle buses to replace service between Back Bay and Forest Hills. Additionally, the Commuter Rail will offer fare-free service between Forest Hills, Ruggles, Back Bay, and South Station. Riders are advised to expect significant delays, with shuttle trips from Forest Hills to downtown potentially taking at least 30 minutes longer than usual.
