MCD suspends five officials after Satya Niketan building collapse
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has suspended five officials following a building collapse in Satya Niketan. Acting on instructions from Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the suspensions include the Deputy Commissioner of the South Zone, Rakesh Kumar, along with Superintendent Engineer Ranveer Singh, Executive Engineer Lalit Kumar Goyal, Assistant Engineer Sunil Chauhan, and Junior Engineer Ashish Kumar.
The disciplinary action follows a site visit by the Chief Minister and Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa to review safety measures and ongoing rescue operations. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) remains active at the scene. The incident involved a building undergoing renovation and construction work.
Notably, three of the suspended officials—Rakesh Kumar, Ranveer Singh, and Ashish Kumar—were also stationed in the South Zone during a previous incident in Malviya Nagar. While the Malviya Nagar incident primarily involved fire and health department oversight, the Satya Niketan collapse has led to direct accountability within the MCD building department.
