McDonald’s announces One Piece and SpongeBob SquarePants crossover

McDonald’s is launching a promotional collaboration in the United States and Canada featuring the franchises One Piece and SpongeBob SquarePants. An animated crossover video has been released to preview the partnership, which involves Toei Animation and Paramount. The campaign will include Happy Meal toys featuring hybrid figures.

The animated preview, which involved storyboarding by Parker Simmons’ team, depicts a meeting between the Straw Hat Pirates and the residents of Bikini Bottom. While distribution has reportedly begun in Canada, the promotion is not expected to include Japan.
