McDonald's Japan launches Pokemon 30th anniversary burger and Pokémon GO collaboration

Japan’s McDonald’s is celebrating the 30th anniversary of Pokémon with a limited‑time menu that began on 22 July. Three themed burgers – a beef, chicken and shrimp option – are packaged with artwork of the original starter trio (Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle). Additional items include a Pikachu‑illustrated breakfast muffin, a night‑time beef burger, and a special “Shaka‑Shaka” seasoned potato. Promotional posters featuring 28 Pokémon appear in all outlets.

At the same time, Niantic’s Pokémon GO has turned participating McDonald’s restaurants into temporary PokéStops from 20 July to 1 September. Players can complete field‑research tasks by visiting the stores, opening and sending gifts, and earn exclusive Pokémon such as Party‑Hat Pikachu through a time‑challenge linked to the McDonald’s rewards program.
