Overview

McDonald’s Japan’s 30th-anniversary tie-in with Pokémon began in mid-July 2026 with discounted 15-piece Chicken McNuggets, starter-generation-themed burgers, and temporary PokéStops in Pokémon GO. A full burger range was added later in July, followed by a 30-piece “tazo” set released in three weekly phases.

From 7 August, the chain launched a limited-time “Pokémon” Happy Set, offering twelve collectible toys across three weekly waves. On 21 August, the third phase of this Pokémon Happy Set promotion became available, featuring 30 different Pokémon toys and a “mini ecology encyclopedia.”

Other McDonald’s Japan promotions include a collaboration with the character Puppet Sunsun starting 28 August, and a Happy Set featuring the ‘Pan Dorobou’ picture book series. Seasonal food items include ‘Shakashaka Potato Nori-shio Seasoning’ for 50 yen and a ‘Tokuninarudo’ campaign offering discounted fries through 28 August.

Complementing the food promotions, Shimaura Park expanded its merchandise on 3 August, selling costume hats and full-body suits. In early September 2026, Marudai Food announced the release of ‘Pokémon Sausages’ with character illustrations. The anniversary has also sparked global interest, including demand for rare items in Chile, a sold-out Steiff Pikachu plush, and a partnership between the Pokémon Company International and the European Space Agency for October 2026.
