McLaren technical upgrades drive consecutive Formula 1 victories

McLaren has secured its second consecutive Formula 1 victory following wins in Budapest and Zandvoort, driven by a series of technical upgrades. While recent aerodynamic developments have significantly increased downforce—particularly in high-speed and long corners—the team also introduced new front wheel rims at the Dutch Grand Prix.

Technical director of engineering Neil Houldey noted that the new front rims are designed to help the team build tyre temperature more effectively. This addresses a previous struggle seen in races like Monaco, where difficulty generating front tyre heat reduced overall grip. While Houldey stated these specific rim changes may not offer massive lap time improvements on their own, they contribute to the car's overall competitiveness.

Team principal Andrea Stella observed that high-downforce circuits naturally suit the car's current characteristics, but the combination of floor adjustments, brake duct tweaks, and wheel developments has allowed the team to exceed internal performance expectations.
