MDV raises public transport fares in Leipzig and Halle

The Mitteldeutscher Verkehrsverbund (MDV) announced a fare increase for its bus, tram and regional train services that will take effect at the start of August. In Leipzig, ticket prices will rise by five percent, with similar adjustments planned for Halle (Saale). The tariff hike is part of a periodic adjustment schedule and has drawn criticism from the Die Linke party, which argues that public transport should be treated as a basic service and calls for fare‑free options.

The increase affects commuters who rely on the MDV network for daily travel, potentially raising the cost of mobility across the central German region.
