Measles outbreak in Jalisco reaches 8,000 cases and five deaths

Jalisco has recorded 8,025 measles cases and five deaths since the outbreak began across 2025 and 2026. The state currently leads the country in infections. The municipalities with the highest number of contagions are Tlaquepaque, Tonalá, Guadalajara, Zapopan, Tlajomulco, and El Salto.

Health authorities have administered more than 3 million vaccines to combat the spread. While the cumulative figures are high, no active measles cases have been reported in the state as of October 21, 2026. This follows a visit in August from the Pan American Health Organization's monitoring commission, which recommended a review of epidemiological and laboratory data due to delays in classifying pending cases.
