Measles Outbreak Spurs Vaccination Drives in Honduras and Mexico

Honduran health authorities confirmed four measles cases in a family of the Cofradía neighbourhood of San Pedro Sula. The father, unvaccinated, likely contracted the virus during a June trip to Santa Rosa de Copán, and three children later developed symptoms. In response, the Secretariat of Health activated national response protocols, deploying 14 vaccination brigades to conduct active case finding, contact tracing, and free immunisation in the community.

In Mexico, the mayor of Jocotepec, Hugo García, called for residents of San Juan Cosalá to get vaccinated after a local outbreak persisted for three weeks. Municipal health workers set up daily vaccination sessions until 20:00, organized mobile brigades to reach households, and assured that vaccines are available regardless of documentation. The campaign aims to halt further transmission in the municipality.
