Measles outbreaks reported in Tenerife and Honduras

The Canary Islands health authority confirmed a measles outbreak in Tenerife affecting four people, including an index case of a child from the United Kingdom who contracted the disease while on holiday. One patient required hospitalisation, and the three secondary cases are adults aged 45 to 55 who had not been vaccinated. Public health officials have activated contact‑tracing protocols and are urging residents to verify their vaccination status.

In Honduras, the Ministry of Health reported its sixth measles case, a 29‑year‑old Italian man who had travelled through Guatemala, where a local outbreak is ongoing. Five of the six cases in Honduras are imported. The patient is stable in isolation, and rapid‑response teams are conducting contact investigations and vaccination campaigns in the areas he visited to prevent further transmission.
