Measles vaccination campaigns intensify in Ecuador and Guatemala

The Ministry of Public Health in Ecuador stepped up measles vaccination and epidemiological surveillance this week, deploying mobile brigades across Imbabura province and holding training sessions for health workers. Authorities urged parents to verify immunisation status for children, adolescents and adults, emphasizing that completing the vaccine series is the primary prevention measure.

In Guatemala, the Instituto Guatemalteco de Seguridad Social reported 5,953 confirmed measles cases among its affiliates over five months and expanded its vaccination drive nationwide. The agency highlighted a surge from 50‑80 daily cases early in the year to 200‑300 later, with the capital accounting for 65‑67% of infections. Hospitalisation rates remain low at 3.4%, and the IGSS has increased testing and surveillance to curb further spread.
