Medellín raises funds and supplies for Colombia earthquake victims

Following a devastating 7.4 magnitude earthquake in Colombia, the city of Medellín has launched several cultural and musical initiatives to provide humanitarian aid to affected regions. A major event titled ‘Colombia, Medellín Te Quiere’ held at the La Macarena event center successfully raised 6,000 million pesos, along with 31 tons of food and hygiene products.

These donations are destined for communities in Chocó, Valle del Cauca, and the Eje Cafetero. The earthquake, which had its epicenter near San José del Palmar, Chocó, has resulted in a preliminary death toll of approximately 294 people, with thousands more injured and hundreds missing. The disaster has also caused significant structural damage, affecting over 81,000 homes.

In addition to the large-scale concert, Medellín has activated a network of solidarity through museums like MAMM and cultural spaces like La Bruja Riso to coordinate collection centers. Other musical artists, including Morat, Karol G, and Maluma, have also announced various forms of support and upcoming solidarity concerts to assist in reconstruction efforts.
