Colombia earthquake relief efforts

Overview

A 7.4 magnitude earthquake in western Colombia has caused significant devastation, resulting in at least 265 deaths, 3,494 injuries, and 496 missing persons. The National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD) reports that the disaster has impacted 403 municipalities across 14 departments, leading to the destruction of over 11,000 homes and the collapse of 140 buildings.

Relief efforts have mobilized through various sectors. Conmebol and the Colombian Football Federation (FCF) announced a joint one million dollar donation to the ‘Colombia, un solo corazón’ campaign. Consequently, Dimayor has postponed all professional football activities, including Primera A, Primera B, and the Copa Colombia, until August 19.

In Medellín, a charity concert titled ‘Colombia, Medellín te quiere’ is scheduled for August 15 at the Centro de Eventos La Macarena. Featuring over 25 musical artists, the event aims to donate 100% of ticket proceeds to earthquake victims and will host a collection point for direct donations.
