Medellín authorities have announced scheduled nightly water service interruptions starting Tuesday, September 8, following the failure of voluntary conservation efforts. The measure, driven by reduced rainfall and low reservoir levels associated with the El Niño phenomenon, is expected to impact approximately 109,000 households.

EPM reported that the water supply system is facing a deficit of nearly 120 liters per second. The Piedras Blancas reservoir is in a particularly critical state, with officials warning it could reach critical levels within 15 days if consumption is not managed. The planned interruptions will occur between 8:00 PM and 4:00 AM and are initially scheduled to last until September 14.

Conservation targets for the Piedras Blancas, Riogrande, and La Fe systems were not met between September 2 and September 6. While the Piedras Blancas system saw a minor reduction in consumption, the Riogrande system experienced a 10-liter daily increase, and the La Fe system fell significantly short of its reduction goals.
