Medemblik to test emergency support points during power outage drill

The municipality of Medemblik is conducting an exercise on September 30 to test emergency support points in Twisk and Wervershoof. The drill is part of a pilot program by the Noord-Holland Noord Safety Region, which also includes Schagen, Den Helder, and Alkmaar.

The simulation focuses on scenarios involving prolonged outages of electricity, internet, or telephony. These support points are designed to serve as central locations where residents can access information, receive assistance, and relay emergency reports to services when standard communication methods fail. Officials clarified that these sites are intended for information and support rather than acting as general shelter locations.

The exercise involves collaboration between municipal employees, volunteers, the Red Cross, and the Safety Region to test operational processes and the effectiveness of informing residents during a crisis.
