Dutch municipality emergency support point trials

Dutch municipalities are conducting trials for emergency support points to assist residents during major crises, such as prolonged power outages or the failure of digital communication networks. These hubs are intended to provide reliable information, assistance, and a means to report emergencies when telephone and internet services are unavailable.

In the Twente region, municipalities including Losser, Dinkelland, Enschede, Hellendoorn, Hof van Twente, and Tubbergen are collaborating with Veiligheidsregio Twente to evaluate operational requirements. Similar efforts are underway in Tilburg at Wijkcentrum De Symfonie.

In Noord-Holland Noord, the municipality of Medemblik is participating in a pilot program alongside Schagen, Den Helder, and Alkmaar. This includes an exercise in Twisk and Wervershoof to test the effectiveness of these points. Officials have noted that these sites are designed for information and support rather than serving as general shelter locations. The exercises involve coordination between municipal employees, volunteers, the Red Cross, and safety regions.
