Media groups demand freedom of expression in Venezuela negotiations

Media representatives, journalists, and press freedom organizations have formally requested that the Venezuelan opposition include freedom of expression as a priority in political negotiations. The proposal, delivered to the opposition delegation, outlines five urgent guarantees required to restore information access in the country.

The demands include the lifting of digital blockades currently affecting over 50 media outlets and numerous web domains, as well as the granting of amnesty and the dismissal of criminal proceedings against persecuted journalists. Additionally, the group calls for the reform of punitive legal frameworks, specifically the Law on Social Responsibility in Radio and Television (Resorteme) and the Law against Hate.

Further requests involve ensuring legal security for broadcasting concessions to prevent the discretionary revocation of licenses and ensuring economic transparency. This includes providing access to essential supplies like newsprint, ending punitive tax closures by the Seniat, and ensuring equitable distribution of official advertising.
