Mediators warn Israeli strikes undermine Gaza peace efforts

Mediators from Turkey, Egypt, and Qatar have condemned recent Israeli strikes in the Gaza Strip, warning that the intensification of attacks undermines international efforts to implement a comprehensive peace plan. The mediators urged Israel to meet ceasefire obligations to prevent further escalation.

The proposed peace roadmap involves a phased approach where Hamas would relinquish its weapons in exchange for the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the enclave. However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected this sequencing, demanding that Hamas fully disarm before any withdrawal occurs. Hamas has also disputed the implementation sequence and demanded a full Israeli withdrawal.

Separately, public health researchers have documented what they describe as a purposeful effort to collapse Gaza’s health sector through the destruction of hospitals, damage to water systems, and sustained military operations. The UN Human Rights Office has also raised concerns regarding the systemic ill-treatment and confiscation of medical supplies targeting Palestinians returning to the territory.
