Medical advancements in Albania and supply shortages in Kosovo

In Albania, medical teams at Memorial Hospital successfully performed a rare Thoracic Endovascular Aortic Repair (TEVAR) on a patient with acute type B aortic dissection. The procedure, which had a reported success probability of only 1%, involved a team of 10 doctors, including specialists from the 'Shefqet Ndroqi' hospital and the 'Nënë Tereza' University Hospital Center.

In Kosovo, an internal audit at the University Clinical Center of Kosovo (QKUK) has revealed significant mismanagement regarding medical supplies. The audit identified failures in planning, procurement, and monitoring, which led to shortages of essential items such as surgical pens, stents, and oncology medications. Health Minister Arben Vitia has called for disciplinary measures and improvements to address these systemic deficiencies.
