Medical advancements in Poland introduce new glaucoma and cataract treatments

Two significant medical milestones have been reached in Poland regarding ophthalmic surgery. In Warsaw, the Independent Public Clinical Ophthalmology Hospital performed the first glaucoma treatments in the country using the FLigHT method. This procedure utilizes a high-precision femtosecond laser to create microscopic channels in the eye to improve fluid drainage without the need for surgical incisions or implants. The facility is the first in Poland and only the fourth globally to implement this technology.

Separately, in Nowy Targ, the OKO-TEST clinic conducted the first cataract surgery in Poland involving the implantation of a next-generation hydrophobic intraocular lens. Developed using artificial intelligence, this lens features non-diffractive spiral optics designed to provide a continuous range of vision from near to far while minimizing light loss and visual disturbances such as halos. This advancement aims to provide high-quality vision and reduce the risk of posterior capsule opacification.
