Medical collaborations enhance healthcare services in Guyana and Jamaica

In Guyana, thirteen children received specialized cardiac care at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) following a collaboration between local medical staff and an 18-member team from Apollo Hospitals in India. Between September 28 and October 2, specialists completed 16 procedures, including 10 complex open-heart surgeries, three catheter-based device closures, and three diagnostic catheterisations. The initiative aims to provide complex cardiac care for congenital heart defects closer to home while allowing local professionals to gain experience alongside international specialists.

In Jamaica, the first cohort of 43 Ghanaian nurse specialists has arrived to support the local health system under a bilateral cooperation agreement. This initial group includes experts in critical care, paediatrics, oncology, mental health, and emergency care. The partnership is expected to eventually deploy up to 400 healthcare workers from Ghana to Jamaica, with many of the current specialists assigned to the Western and South East Regional Health Authorities.
