Medical College of Honduras calls 12-hour assembly over salary disputes
The Medical College of Honduras (CMH) has called for a 12-hour national extraordinary informative assembly on Wednesday, September 16. The union is demanding the regularization of contracts, payment of overdue salaries, and adjustments related to inflation. Additionally, the CMH is seeking a significant increase in public health funding, proposing that 12% of the General Budget of the Republic be allocated to the sector.
While the assembly is scheduled to last from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, the CMH has mandated that emergency services and critical care areas must remain operational to ensure patient safety. The labor dispute has previously caused disruptions in outpatient consultations.
In response to the unrest, Deputy and physician Johana Bermúdez urged the medical union to exhaust all dialogue options before resorting to assemblies. Bermúdez stated that while the claims for unpaid wages are legitimate, doctors must maintain their responsibility toward patients. She announced that payments for biennial adjustments and salary readjustments are expected to begin this week, with processes for younger doctors to be completed over the following two weeks. Bermúdez has also requested President Nasry Asfura to expedite administrative processes to prevent recurring salary delays.
