Medical experts link diabetes and obesity to heart disease risks
Medical experts in Turkey are highlighting the critical links between diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular health. Dr. Cemal Ergin, an internal medicine specialist at Medicana Bursa Hospital, describes diabetes as a multisystemic disease that can affect various organs by disrupting insulin production or effectiveness. He notes that while Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes differ, modern treatments now allow for individualized approaches, often prioritizing oral medications over insulin for suitable patients.
Prof. Dr. Kervan emphasizes that obesity is a primary driver of metabolic diseases, which can lead to diabetes and subsequent coronary artery disease. This progression can result in severe heart failure, sometimes necessitating heart transplants. To mitigate these risks, experts recommend maintaining a healthy diet, regular physical activity, adequate sleep, and avoiding smoking to prevent the long-term damage caused by uncontrolled metabolic factors.
