Medical experts warn of early symptoms for gynecological cancers
Medical experts are warning about the critical importance of recognizing early symptoms of gynecological cancers, particularly ovarian cancer, which is often diagnosed in advanced stages. Dr. Susanna Unsworth notes that over 75 percent of ovarian cancer cases are detected late, often after the disease has spread to the abdominal cavity. Key warning signs include persistent bloating that lasts more than two to three weeks, new pelvic, back, or lower abdominal pain, urinary changes, and the presence of lumps or swelling.
Additionally, oncologists are highlighting a rising trend in cancer diagnoses among younger populations. Data from 1990 to 2019 shows an almost 80 percent increase in cancer diagnoses for individuals under 50. Dr. Joshua G. Cohen, medical director of the gynecologic cancer program at City of Hope Orange County, advises that individuals under 40 should never ignore unexplained bleeding, as it can indicate various cancers. Other significant symptoms to monitor include unexplained weight loss, persistent fatigue, and changes in digestion, such as blood in the stool.
