Moldova to build new hospice and reform disability services

Moldova is advancing its healthcare and social services through new infrastructure and reform initiatives. The Ministry of Health and Hospices of Hope Moldova have signed a memorandum to construct a modern palliative care hospice. This new center will provide 26 beds—20 for adults and 6 for children—offering specialized medical, psychological, and emotional support for patients with advanced incurable diseases, including cancer.

The facility will also serve as an educational hub for students from the Nicolae Testemițanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy. The project leverages the expertise of Hospices of Hope, a British charity that has operated in Moldova since 2008 and manages similar centers in Romania.

In a separate social initiative, the Moldovan government has announced a reform program for disability services running through 2030. The plan involves investing 750.5 million lei to improve social inclusion, simplify the disability assessment process, and reduce reliance on residential institutions. Key goals include introducing specific disability criteria for children and increasing access to community-based social services by 30%.
