Medical institutions expand robotic-assisted surgery capabilities

Medical institutions in Morocco, France, and Germany are expanding the use of robotic-assisted surgery, particularly for oncological and urological procedures.

In Morocco, the Oncorad Group published a study in the Journal of Robotic Surgery detailing 134 robot-assisted radical prostatectomies performed at Littoral Clinic in Casablanca. The study, led by Pr Redouane Samlali and Pr Youness Ahallal, reported no deaths and a major postoperative complication rate of 1.5%. Results showed that urinary continence reached 88.2% of patients at twelve months.

In France, Hôpital Européen has utilized Da Vinci surgical robots since 2013 and currently operates three latest-generation units. The facility has performed nearly 4,500 robotic interventions across urology, digestive, thoracic, and gynecological surgery to provide minimally invasive care.

In Germany, GFO Kliniken (including Vinzenz Pallotti Hospital, Marien-Krankenhaus Bergisch Gladbach, and St. Josef Krankenhaus Engelskirchen) are implementing the Da Vinci surgical system. The technology will be applied to urology, general, and visceral surgery to improve precision and reduce patient recovery times.
