Medical negligence investigations launched regarding newborn cases in India

In Bandipora, the Chief Medical Officer has ordered a two-day inquiry following the death of a newborn at the District Hospital. A five-member committee has been tasked with examining allegations of medical negligence and potential delays in referring the case to a higher medical center. The investigation will review the sequence of events and medical management to determine if any lapses occurred.

In Kottayam, Kerala, the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has registered a case regarding allegations that a needle was left inside a newborn girl during treatment at Kottayam Medical College Hospital in 2025. The family claims the object was discovered nearly a year after the child's birth. The hospital has appointed a three-member medical panel to investigate the claims, while the Commission seeks reports from the district police and hospital superintendent.
