Medical research advances in cardiovascular health and biological aging
Recent medical research presented at the European Society of Cardiology Congress 2026 highlights significant advancements in cardiovascular prevention and aging. A randomized study involving nearly 10,000 participants, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, found that atorvastatin reduced the relative risk of major cardiovascular events—including heart attack, stroke, and cardiovascular death—by 30% in individuals over age 70 without prior history of heart disease.
In the field of genetic therapy, a phase 1 clinical trial of CTX310, a CRISPR-based treatment, demonstrated that a single intravenous infusion could significantly reduce LDL cholesterol and triglycerides. In a small study of 15 participants, the highest dose led to an approximately 53% reduction in LDL cholesterol after one year.
Additionally, research published in Nature Biotechnology indicates that the experimental drug Rentosertib, developed by Insilico Medicine, may slow biological aging. In a 12-week study of 42 patients with chronic lung disease, AI-driven biological clocks showed a decrease in biological age markers among those receiving the drug, compared to the placebo group.
