Medical robotics focus on surgical innovation and global compliance

The robotics industry is seeing significant advancements in service and medical applications, with a growing emphasis on global regulatory compliance and surgical innovation.

At the 2026 World Robot Conference, TÜV Rheinland held a seminar focusing on the challenges of exporting service and medical robots to international markets. Experts discussed the necessity of meeting diverse regulatory requirements in the EU, North America, Japan, and South Korea. Key topics included cybersecurity, data privacy, functional safety, and the EU Medical Device Regulation (MDR). The seminar emphasized that compliance must be integrated into the entire product lifecycle, from design and risk assessment to post-market management.

In Malaysia, the SSMART 2026 Surgical Symposium on Advanced Robotic Technology highlighted the transformative potential of robotic-assisted surgery in healthcare. State executive councillor Jason H’ng Mooi Lye noted that while technology is vital, progress is driven by the collaboration between surgeons, researchers, and healthcare institutions. The symposium aims to foster knowledge exchange and multidisciplinary partnerships to strengthen the healthcare ecosystem and improve patient outcomes.
