Medicina stabbing: 57-year-old arrested for attempted murder

A 57-year-old man has been arrested for the attempted murder of a 28-year-old Italian man following a machete attack in Buda, a district of Medicina near Bologna. The victim remains in critical condition at the Maggiore Hospital in Bologna.

Investigations by the Carabinieri suggest the young man may have been attacked by mistake. Authorities believe the true target was the suspect's mother, toward whom the man had allegedly developed an obsession involving unrequited attention and messages since March.

The suspect, a resident of Medicina who has lived in Italy for several years, was apprehended at his workplace. He faces charges of aggravated attempted murder and has been detained in Dozza pending a hearing.
