Mees Hilgers seeks return to Indonesia national team in November

SC Heerenveen defender Mees Hilgers has expressed his hope to return to the Indonesia national team for the FIFA Match Day in November 2026. Hilgers, who has been recovering from a long-term injury, has recently returned to the Heerenveen match squad, appearing on the bench for their fixture against PSV Eindhoven.

In an interview with the Dutch media outlet Voetbalprimeur, Hilgers confirmed he has been in communication with Indonesia head coach John Herdman regarding his current situation at his club. He indicated that once he regains consistent playing time, he expects to receive a call-up for the national team, which includes a confirmed away match against Jordan.

Hilgers has not played competitive football since May 2025, when he last appeared for Twente in a Europa Conference League play-off. His last appearance for the Indonesian national team was against Japan in June of the previous year.
