Megara, Greece rescue of 12‑year‑old swept by waves
On Tuesday, June 23, a 12‑year‑old boy was carried away by strong winds and high waves at the Bay of Megara, Greece. He drifted toward a rocky islet about 800 metres from shore while his mother swam alongside him to keep him afloat. Two local volunteer rescuers responded quickly, arriving in an inflatable boat. They first lifted the boy onto the boat and then rescued his mother, bringing both safely back to the harbor.
The dramatic moment was recorded and later shown on the Star TV news bulletin, and the family expressed gratitude to the volunteers and the coast guard for their swift assistance.
