Megawatt-scale charging hubs expand for electric heavy goods vehicles

New high-power charging infrastructure is being deployed to support the transition to electric heavy goods vehicles (HGVs). In the United Kingdom, Welch’s Transport has opened a megawatt-scale eHGV charging hub at its Cambridge headquarters. Part of the eFREIGHT 2030 project and the UK Government’s Zero Emission HGV and Infrastructure Demonstrator (ZEHID) Programme, the Duxford hub utilizes Voltempo’s HyperCharger technology. The site features six high-power bays capable of delivering up to 1MW of power.

In Portugal, Efacec has announced the launch of a modular Charging Hub capable of providing up to 1.6 MW of power. Designed for fleets and heavy vehicles, the solution integrates charging technology, medium-voltage equipment, automation, and software. The platform uses 800 kW modular power units and can support up to 16 DC charging outputs. The system is also designed to support future Megawatt Charging System (MCS) implementations for heavy-duty vehicles.
