Megawatt charging infrastructure for heavy vehicles

Overview

Developments in megawatt-scale charging infrastructure are expanding to support heavy-duty electric vehicles and autonomous logistics.

In South Korea, CHAEVI is developing a Megawatt Charging System (MCS) dispenser as part of a national project to create a ‘Autonomous Driving-based Smart Port Mobility Platform’. This initiative integrates AI-driven decisions and autonomous mobile robots to enable 24-hour unmanned operations in smart ports.

Simultaneously, high-power charging hubs are being deployed for heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) in Europe. In the United Kingdom, Welch’s Transport has opened a megawatt-scale hub in Cambridge using Voltempo’s HyperCharger technology as part of the eFREIGHT 2030 and ZEHID programmes. In Portugal, Efacec has launched a modular charging hub capable of providing up to 1.6 MW of power, designed to support fleet automation and future MCS implementations.
